Reds agree deal with Real Madrid for sale of Xabi Alonso

Liverpool Football Club have agreed a fee for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid. The player is due to have a medical with the Bernabeu club tomorrow. The Reds have released a brief statement which says:

“Liverpool Football Club this evening confirmed they had reached agreement for the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, subject only to a medical.”

The Anfield club adds about the proposed move:

“The terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed.”

The Spaniard moved to Liverpool from Real Sociedad in August 2004 for £10.5 million. He won the UEFA Champions League in his first season at the club. The following season he won the Super Cup, FA Cup, and also the FA Community Shield. He has been seen as a key player during his spell with the club and was a driving force behind the Reds best ever Premiership campaign last season.
