Gerrard withdraw from England squad with groin injury

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been withdrawn from the England squad to face Holland after suffering a slight groin injury. The Reds midfielder made the decision not to travel out to Amsterdam today after feeling some tightness in his groin. Gerrard who has been with Fabio Capello’s squad since Sunday night, will now return to Melwood for treatment and it is hoped he will be available for the first game of the new campaign. With the match taking place 3 days before the start of the new Premiership season, this is another reason why meaningless friendlies, should be ditched. Hopefully his withdrawal is only a precautionary measure and the Liverpool captain will lead the Reds out at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
